Restoration + Giving
Honouring Our Past. Building What Comes Next.
For 90 years, St. Francis of Assisi Parish has been a place of prayer, community, learning, and service in the heart of East Vancouver.
Generations have gathered here for Mass, baptisms, weddings, funerals, school celebrations, feast days, and moments of quiet prayer. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we are also looking ahead with care and responsibility.
The restoration of our South-East Tower is an important part of preserving our parish for future generations.
Faith, community, learning, and service in East Vancouver.

Why Restoration Is Needed
Caring for Our Historic Church
Our historic church has served the parish and neighbourhood for nearly a century. Like many older buildings, it now requires significant care to remain safe, accessible, and welcoming.
A professional facilities assessment has identified an estimated $1.5 million in infrastructure needs over the next five years. These needs include safety requirements, building code standards, and long-term maintenance of the parish property.
A major part of this work is the restoration of the South-East Tower, which has suffered structural damage from years of water infiltration.
South-East Tower Restoration
Restoring a Visible Sign of Faith
The South-East Tower is both a necessary repair project and a visible symbol of our parish’s presence in East Vancouver. The estimated cost to complete the full tower restoration is $600,000.
This work will help:
- Address structural damage caused by water infiltration
- Preserve the historic character of the church
- Protect the building for future generations
- Support a safe and welcoming parish environment
- Continue the legacy of the families who built and sustained St. Francis of Assisi Parish
Recent Parish Improvements
Stewardship in Action
The parish has already completed several important repairs and improvements, including:
- Replacement of the original drainage system around the church
- Installation of new boilers
- Replacement of the elevator lift for safety and accessibility
- Seismic upgrades to the original school building
- School flooring and learning space improvements
- Continued planning for the new school gymnasium
These projects reflect the parish’s commitment to careful stewardship, transparency, and long-term care of our buildings.
